Invisalign in Monroe Township, NJ
Your smile plays a more significant role in your life than you might realize – impacting relationships, oral health, your self-esteem, people’s perception of you, even your professional career.
Many studies have shown that your teeth can determine how others regard you. Not only is your smile one of the first things people notice about you, but it’s also often the first thing they remember about you. Your smile could influence a first date or important interview, and determine if you make it to the next round.
At Monroe Dental Arts, we understand that not everyone is lucky enough to have had orthodontics as a child or teen; some people may even have allowed their previously corrected smiles to relapse because they failed to wear their retainers regularly as a follow-up to their orthodontic care. Are you an adult who has always wanted straighter teeth, but hesitated due to the inconvenience and commitment required from traditional orthodontics? If the thought of wearing brackets and wires for the next couple of years makes you cringe, then Invisalign might be the perfect solution for you.
When you wear Invisalign, no one will know unless you tell them. You won’t have to worry about having braces while you talk to an important client or when you’re out for a night on the town. Invisalign allows you to have orthodontic treatment without making it apparent to the world.
If you are in Monroe and considering making a permanent change to your smile, schedule a dental appointment with Dr. Virdee to determine your candidacy and smile needs.

What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment used to treat adults and teens who have cosmetic concerns with their smiles. Invisalign can also treat mild cases of overcrowding, underbite, overbite, and crossbites. Invisalign works much like traditional orthodontics, but instead of utilizing metal brackets and wires, the Invisalign labs create clear plastic trays made to our exact specifications that gently and gradually move your teeth into position.
The transparent trays fit so snugly that you get used to wearing them after just a couple of days. You can still speak normally, and you can remove them to eat, so getting food in them is not a problem. Typically, Dr. Virdee will recommend changing out your trays about every two weeks. She will monitor you closely and let you know when it’s time to change to the next tray. You will need to make regular follow-up appointments to Monroe Dental Arts for Dr. Virdee to monitor your progress.
Invisalign is exceptionally convenient because maintaining your dental health during treatment is so easy. You remove your trays to clean them and while you eat. You also remove them to brush and floss your teeth, so you don’t have to worry about embarrassing incidents with food getting stuck, something that can frequently happen with traditional braces.
In order to move through treatment in the estimated amount of time, you should wear your trays for twenty-two hours or more each day. Dr. Virdee can give you a treatment estimate after she provides you with a full exam and discusses your dental goals with you.
Benefits of Invisalign in Monroe Township
Wanting straighter teeth isn’t merely a cosmetic issue; crooked teeth can be harder to clean thoroughly. Teeth that cannot be accessed for cleaning can eventually lead to periodontal disease or tooth decay; putting you at risk for gum and bone damage along with tooth loss.
Traditional braces require brackets to be mounted to your teeth, while Invisalign uses custom-fitted trays that you wear all day except when eating or brushing and flossing. Every two weeks, you change aligners to straighten your teeth gradually. There is a certain amount of discipline required due to the importance of wearing the trays no less than twenty hours a day.
There are multiple benefits for wearing Invisalign, some of the more obvious advantages include:
- Attractive: Invisible aligners are clear and unnoticeable.
- Convenient: Invisible braces often require less frequent visits to Dr. Virdee than with traditional.
- Safety: Metal braces can irritate gums and cheeks, while Invisalign does not.
- Comfort: Invisible braces are removable so you can eat and drink as normal.
- Hygiene: You can practice better oral hygiene with removable braces, since they are easier to clean, reducing the risk of gum disease or tooth decay.
- Treatment time: Traditional braces can take up to five years to finish treatment. Invisalign can take up to a year and a half—straightening your teeth in half the time.
- Quality of life: Invisalign allows you to eat whatever you want, while traditional braces run the risk of getting food stuck in the wires, or having hard food dislodge them.
Invisalign braces work best for patients who don't have critical teeth problems; for severe cases, metal braces may be necessary. During your initial examination and dental assessment, Dr. Virdee will be able to determine your candidacy after evaluating the condition of your smile.
How to Care for Your Invisalign Orthodontics
- Invisalign trays should be worn twenty-two hours per day.
- Dr. Virdee will determine how often you should keep orthodontic appointments to make sure your smile is on track.
- Don’t clean your aligners with hot water; heat can warp your aligners.
- Once your treatment is complete, make sure to wear your retainer to avoid relapse.
- Follow Dr. Virdee’s instructions on how to wipe and clean your aligners.
- Keep your aligners away from curious pets or children.
- Avoid wrapping your aligners in napkins during meals; many get accidentally tossed!
Invisalign for Teens
In some cases, we can treat teens with Invisalign. Dr. Virdee can perform a full evaluation to let you know if we can treat your teen or if their situation requires traditional orthodontics. We want the best possible outcome for treatment and can clearly explain all of your options and potential outcomes. Since invisible braces are perfect for mild cases, your teen may be better suited for metal braces if a significant change is necessary.
Invisalign for Adults
In an ideal world, our teeth would line up perfectly; unfortunately, many people have to struggle with crooked teeth, overcrowded smiles, or misaligned bites. Not only are crowded teeth more difficult to clean, but malocclusion (misaligned bite) can also make chewing or speaking difficult.
While childhood may be the ideal time to change the positioning of your teeth and bite, more and more adults are treating themselves to orthodontic treatment. Adult orthodontic treatment is different than childhood treatment for several reasons. Dr. Virdee needs to establish oral health before any orthodontic procedures.
