Minor Surgical Services

When you are looking for a new dentist, it is important to keep in mind the services they offer. While most dental practices will offer several general dentistry procedures such as cleanings, root canals, and cosmetic dentistry, the more they do, the more efficient they will be at providing you with the best care. Which is why Dr. Har Simran K. Virdee continues her education and training in specialized dentistry and modern treatments. At Monroe Dental Arts, we offer minor surgical services so our patients don’t need to go anywhere else for their dental needs.

Minor Surgical Services

  • Simple Extractions – Though most dental concerns can be treated without the need to pull a tooth, sometimes it is necessary in order to prevent the spread of infection and decay. When tooth decay isn’t treated right away and has progressed beyond the point where a root canal can help, the tooth must be pulled before the decay spreads to the bone. Extraction may also be beneficial if you are experiencing crowding to allow the teeth more room for better alignment.
  • Surgical Extractions – The main difference between a simple and surgical extraction is that the latter requires the dentist to remove gum tissue or bone to extract the tooth. The most common reason people need surgical extractions is when their wisdom teeth are impacted. When a wisdom tooth is impacted, it hasn’t grown in straight, making it impossible to breach the gum layer. In this case, the gum must be folded back or removed in order to get to the tooth so it can be removed. Other cases of surgical extraction are when the tooth breaks through the gum line, either during trauma or extraction.
  • Bone Grafting – For implant procedures, it is necessary for you to have a certain amount of bone so the implant is secure and sturdy. If there isn’t enough bone, you may need a bone graft in order to receive an implant. Most often, we use bone from the patient and place it into the socket where the implant will go. Once the grafted bone has bonded with your jaw bone, we can move forward with the implant procedure.
