Why Did We Recommend a Nightguard for You?

We make all of our recommendations for treatment based on the individual needs of our patients. We offer nightguards in our Monroe township dental office to provide a preventive solution to some common problems.

Why Did We Recommend a Nightguard for You?

Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)

When you have a comprehensive exam in our dental office, we examine the entire mouth. Some telltale signs might indicate that you could benefit from a nightguard.

  • Bite marks on the inside of the mouth
  • Worn teeth that look short
  • Bony growths beneath the tongue
  • Broken and cracked teeth

Prolonged bruxism can lead to a condition called TMJ disorder. TMJ refers to the temporomandibular joint, and when it works overtime, the joints may begin to malfunction, deteriorate, or become painful. Some of the signs include clicking and popping, locking, pain, headaches, ringing in the ears, migraines, facial swelling, and pain.

A nightguard can protect your teeth and help your jaw glide into a more comfortable position while you sleep. This will help you avoid many conditions in the future – including tooth loss.

Nightguards to Protect Your Investment

If you recently had new dental crowns, veneers, implants, or bonding and you have a strong bite or occasionally grind your teeth, a nightguard can help you avoid cracking or breaking your dentistry (and your teeth) during sleep. Investing in your smile is a great way to improve your health and appearance, so let’s keep your investment safe with a preventive nightguard.

Nightguards are easy to get used to, and patients often report that they feel more rested when they wake up after wearing their protective nightguard.

We will take an impression of your teeth and bite to ensure a good fit. Once we receive your nightguard from our dental lab, we will place it in your mouth and make sure your teeth come together correctly and comfortably.

Since your nightguard will absorb much of the force, you may grind away the surface of your nightguard and find it looking like Swiss cheese. You will need to bring it to your appointment to repair it or replace it, so you remain protected.
