Teeth are at risk every day, but possibly more so for our adventurous and competitive patients! We love sports and activities that help kids and adults stay fit and happy, but we do recommend some common sense caution, such as wearing a custom mouthguard, which we offer in our Monroe Township dental office.

Advantages of Custom Mouthguards

You can certainly purchase a kit to make your own mouthguard at home, but these boil-and-bite styles are often difficult to fit and don’t stay in place. Custom mouthguards are fitted to your teeth for a slim, close design that makes sure they are providing the protection you need when you need it, like avoiding a stray flyball or hockey stick.

Breathing is important when you are working up a sweat. Custom mouthguards make it easier for you to breath naturally, without straining yourself because of your dental appliance.

Custom mouthguards come in fun colors for kids supporting their favorite team and discreet clear varieties for people who want a more natural look.

Your custom mouthguard will absorb force during hands-on play or adventure sports that put your teeth at risk.

  • Baseball
  • Football
  • Soccer
  • Hockey
  • Mountain biking
  • Equestrian sports
  • Lacrosse
  • Rugby
  • Boxing
  • Wrestling
  • Skateboarding

Mouthguards will prevent you from cutting your delicate gum tissue on your teeth, having a knocked out tooth, avoiding broken teeth and cracks, and protecting the lower jaw from impact injury.

Since we custom-make mouthguards for patients on an individual basis, we will need to take impressions and make special considerations for kids wearing braces, and who develop more adult teeth from one season to the next.

If you or your child would like more information about the custom mouthguards we offer in our Monroe Township dental office, give us a call! We can get you an appointment right away so that you can feel confident your smile is protected.
